The journey

A short private safari with two very different landscapes.

Tarangire and Ngorongoro can be combined in two days when you want a focused northern Tanzania safari and are comfortable with purposeful travel between the parks. The first day is devoted to Tarangire’s baobabs, elephant herds and riverbeds; the night is placed to make the Ngorongoro morning work well.

This is not presented as a relaxed seven-day circuit compressed into two. It is a concise private route, planned honestly around distances and park flow. If you have more time, the three-day version gives Tarangire a slower second chapter; if two days are right for your schedule, we make each day count.

Day by day

The full rhythm of the route.

This is a concise, active route with two distinctive wildlife chapters. We protect the essential elements: a proper Tarangire drive, a well-timed highlands night and an early crater descent.

Day 01

Arusha to Tarangire: elephants, baobabs and the first safari chapter

Leave Arusha with your private driver-guide and travel into Tarangire National Park, where the landscape changes from cultivated ground to the park’s wide, baobab-studded habitat. Game viewing begins on the way toward the areas offering the strongest opportunity that day. Your guide watches the rhythm of the park rather than treating the drive as a fixed circuit: elephant herds at a water source, a cat sighting, birdlife in riverine cover or an expansive view can all change the route. Lunch is arranged as part of the day, allowing time to rest without losing the entire middle of the safari. The afternoon remains for a second wildlife window before you continue toward the Ngorongoro highlands. The arrival is deliberately calm: settle into your chosen lodge or camp, enjoy dinner and prepare for an earlier departure. This overnight placement is practical as well as pleasant, protecting the following morning’s crater experience instead of turning it into a last-minute transfer.

Day 02

Ngorongoro Crater: early private descent, then onward to Arusha

After an early breakfast, your guide leads the descent into the Ngorongoro Crater while the day is still fresh. The crater’s enclosed floor creates a completely different safari setting from Tarangire: open grassland, water, forested pockets and a concentration of wildlife that rewards patient observation. Your private vehicle gives you a say in the rhythm—more time at a meaningful sighting, a slower photographic stop or a lunch planned around the day’s flow rather than a group timetable. Your guide explains the practical structure of the day and monitors the timing for your onward return. After the crater experience and a planned meal break, continue back to Arusha or an agreed departure point. The final leg is scheduled realistically around your flight or hotel, because a strong short safari should still end with enough time and composure for the next stage of your journey.

Before you decide

Useful answers for this journey.

Is two days enough for Tarangire and Ngorongoro?

It is enough for a focused, active private safari with one full Tarangire chapter and an early crater drive. It is not the best choice if you want two slow nights in Tarangire or a more flexible recovery day between parks.

Where do we stay on the two-day route?

The night is usually placed in or near the Ngorongoro highlands so that the crater descent can begin well the next morning. We compare suitable mid-range, luxury and high-end options once we know your dates and group.

Can we end at Kilimanjaro Airport?

Depending on your departure time, we can plan the end of the route for Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airport. We will be direct about whether the timing works comfortably before confirming it.
