The journey

Forest and baobabs, with the route planned as one journey.

Lake Manyara and Tarangire work well together because the two days feel genuinely different. Manyara brings forest, lake-edge habitat and escarpment views; Tarangire brings baobabs, open country and one of Tanzania’s most compelling elephant landscapes.

Two days is a focused route, not a slow circuit. We manage the transitions honestly, position the overnight to support the second park and make sure each game drive has a clear purpose. If you want additional lodge time or a more relaxed Tarangire pace, we will recommend a longer route instead.

Day by day

The full rhythm of the route.

This private safari gives both parks a defined chapter. The vehicle, guide and overnight positioning are designed to make that short time count.

Day 01

Arusha to Lake Manyara: forest, lake edge and escarpment country

Leave Arusha with your private driver-guide and travel to Lake Manyara National Park with the day structured around a proper game drive rather than a rushed arrival. As you enter the forest, the safari takes on a more intimate rhythm: the road is shaded, habitats change quickly and the guide’s attention moves to smaller signs as well as larger wildlife encounters. Follow the areas that are most rewarding that day, including forest corridors, clearings and viewpoints that give the escarpment its scale. Your guide explains the choices as the route develops and leaves time for a thoughtfully planned lunch rather than treating the middle of the day as lost time. Later, continue toward your selected overnight area, where the evening is for settling in, enjoying dinner and preparing for the next day. The position of the stay is selected to support Tarangire without making the following morning feel like a race.

Day 02

Tarangire: elephants, baobabs and an onward return planned properly

After breakfast, continue to Tarangire National Park for a contrasting day in elephant and baobab country. Your private guide adjusts the game drive to the areas offering the best opportunity, allowing you to follow elephant herds, watch the changing habitats around riverbeds and take time at sightings that matter to you. The difference from Lake Manyara is part of the appeal: wider skies, old trees and a feeling of space that gives the day a new energy. Lunch is arranged to keep the experience comfortable, and the afternoon drive remains flexible around conditions, light and your onward plans. When it is time to leave, return to Arusha or an agreed departure point with realistic timing built in. The two-day route is active, but it should still feel organised and rewarding rather than compressed beyond reason.

Before you decide

Useful answers for this journey.

Why combine Lake Manyara and Tarangire?

The two parks give you different safari days: forest and escarpment in Lake Manyara, then elephants and baobabs in Tarangire. It is an effective short route for clients who value variety and private guiding.

Where do we stay on this route?

We choose the overnight location around your dates, selected comfort level and the route that will make the next morning work well. Your proposal explains the practical differences between the options.

Can this journey continue to Ngorongoro or Serengeti?

Yes. It can be extended into a longer northern Tanzania safari. We will advise which extra nights improve the route rather than adding destinations without enough time to enjoy them.
